Specific eating patterns and nutritional considerations
The soccer team could have an effect on their fluid intake during
or before the game. They would need to drink enough water in
their system because it prevents dehydration which can impair
performance and helps keep the body cool while exercising.
The soccer team would also need to think about their fat intake
such as takeaways. It is important for soccer players to be aware
of seasonal changes in energy requirements. For year round
weight control, it may be necessary for players to reduce their
food intake to match the decrease in training output during the ff
season.
Also the Glycaemic Index is important because scientific research
so far has shown that high GI foods (such as white bread, sports
drinks, sweets) in the recovery phase after exercise help
accelerate glycogen replacement. It would also help the soccer
team to maintain their blood sugar levels, especially during
tournaments where they have to play more than one game.
Carbohydrates are a major source of energy and its very
important to this soccer team. It would help the team because it is
made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and they together keep
the body going during a game.
Vitamins are important and involve 3 servings of vegetables a day
and 2 servings of fruit a day. Vitamin B would include having
wholegrain cereals and bread, vegetables, pork, milk and eggs.
But the soccer team would need to be be careful cooking their
vitamin Bs because it is lost when cereals are refined or if foods
are cooked at high temperatures. The B group include thiamine,
riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine and coalamin.
The soccer team must change their dinner meals to more healthy
food such as vegetables and low fat meats, or add more
vegetables and cut away the fat. They need to be drinking more
water or sports drinks throughout the week and not just drinking
coke or V drinks. The balance of the food intake and the amount
of exercise is not right for the soccer team to be at their best.
They need a lot of high protein and iron food to increase the high
energy needs of the team.
